This Is Why Food Photography Is Important For Boosting Restaurant Sales

One of things that always surprises me working as a food photographer in Las Vegas is just how many restaurants have barely any presence online, no professional food photography, and almost zero social media.

It’s not just about taking pretty pictures. Did you know that looking at pictures of food photography actually creates a physical reaction in the body?

If you’re a human, you likely already knew this, but according to a study from MIT scientists have discovered a population of neurons in the brain that light up when looking at images of food.

Think about it: it’s the end of the day and you're scrolling through Instagram as you wrap up your work day. You scroll past an ad from that new restaurant you’ve heard of but haven’t tried yet. This restaurant not only has an active presence on social media, they hired a food photographer to artistically showcase the best of their menu.

As you view images of cheeseburgers, noodles, or whatever it is that makes your mouth water, you feel a physical reaction in your body.

Not only do your taste buds activate and you start to salivate, you feel that familiar prickle on the back of your tongue. Is it savory, sweet, or tangy? Either way, there’s a good chance your brain will concoct the ghost of flavor that exists whenever you see a familiar array of food.

And if you’re the business owner in this hypothetical situation, you may have just picked up a new customer because you invested in high quality food photography and ran ads to reach new audiences.

High quality food photography is an investment, but it will be worth it to make your customers' mouth water.

Or maybe it’s not worth it. Maybe it’s better to wait for word of mouth to spread. Maybe it’s better to hope people drive by and wonder what’s inside. After all, customers will inevitably go where the good food is. It’s just a matter of time until they discover you, right?

However, if you don’t feel like waiting and if you’re ready to take initiative and market your restaurant better than your competition, please reach out today. Let’s find the angles that make your menu worth salivating over.

Hungry? So are your customers.
